With the aim of placing Lisboa on the level of the big European cities, Hotel do Império was inaugurated in the 1940s, a time where modernism and luxury ruled. Designed by Cassiano Branco, famous portuguese architect, this elegant building has become an icon for the Estado Novo's society until 1974, when it was rebaptized with the fall of the fascist regime. It was only after the troubled period of the revolution that the now named Hotel Britania was restored in its original Art Deco style, combining its genuine ambiance with the comfort and conveniences of the present time. Due to its size and atmosphere, this Heritage Hotel reminds an exclusive club, where each member is a guest that will always want to come back. | |||

1. Being one of the most ancient Hotels in Lisboa, Britania is a true journey in time. Combining conceptual continuity with an affirmation of temporal and constructive identity, it is a modernist expression of the architect Cassiano Branco’s work.
2. Keeping memories alive, the ancient barber’s shop is a lasting reminiscence and an example of the exclusivity of services and dedication that the Hotel always offered to its guests.
3. Spread throughout the common areas of the Hotel guests will find the most important national and international press titles. There is also a library and a desktop PC with internet access.
4. The Bar is perfect for an informal chat among friends or a business meeting. Don’t miss the delicious cocktail Império, which mixes champagne, orange juice and red currant - a Britania’s speciality.
5. Avenida da Liberdade is the core of Lisboa’s luxury stores. Vuitton, Escada, Armani, DKNY, Alfred Dunhill, Zegna or Fashion Clinic are just around the corner.
1. In the best style of the Champs Elysees, the Avenue never lost its charm. With 90m width and decorated pavements it is home to elegant fountains, outdoor cafes under majestic trees and luxury stores.
2. Short distance to the most symbolic theatres in Lisboa: Tivoli, Coliseu dos Recreios and Politeama are always stage for great cultural events.
3. From the Largo da Anunciada, at the back of the Hotel, the Lavra’s lift will take you to Campo dos Mártires da Pátria. On the opposite side of the Avenue, the Glória’s Lift will take you to Bairro Alto.
4. Enjoy the Baixa Pombalina’s elegant charm. Take a stroll through the old monuments and the parallel streets designed by the Marquis of Pombal.
5. Ascend Alfama’s famous stairs across the old Lisboa. Up above, from the Castle defensive walls, stare over one of the city’s most astonishing views.
6. Take a ride in a typical river Tagus boat and enjoy a different way to see Lisboa.
"Bring back the Britania to its original state was a privilege almost as great as welcoming those who visit us." |
